School Counsellor


We have a rare and exciting opportunity for a Counsellor or Psychologist to join our team here at Scone Grammar School as our new School Counsellor in 2022!  Scone Grammar School is looking for a full time School Counsellor to join our dynamic team to commence at the beginning of Term 2, Tuesday 26 April 2022 for the remainder of the school year. The contract may be extended and there is also the possibility of a part time contract if the ideal candidate is unavailable full time.

About the Role

The School Counsellor works closely with teaching staff to identify students’ needs and communicates regularly with parents (where appropriate) when students are being supported and are available for drop-in student requests for support (particularly for Secondary students).

The successful candidate will also be require to liaise with teachers and parents at times, about individual students and various issues, providing support and strategies as appropriate. This may not always involve direct counselling and support with the student under discussion.

The School Counsellor will initiate and facilitate from time to time as required, different student support groups and / or programmes: e.g.

  • Seasons for Growth
  • Dealing with Anxiety
  • Developing More Confidence with Social Skills.

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Psychology or Counselling services
  • Current AHPRA registration or membership with the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors –
  • Experience counselling school aged children between 5-18
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of staff and build meaningful and professional relationships with students and families.
  • Ability to maintain adequate counsellor records and notes, particularly for legal requirements
  • A valid NSW Working with Children Check and COVID-19 vaccinations.
  • Commitment to the education and wellbeing of young people.

Casual Classroom Teacher
