We often take our privilege for granted. Way back when, many people didn’t have basic human rights. Women couldn’t vote, people of colour were used for slave labour, and being gay or identify with a gender you weren’t born with was illegal until VERY recently. My artwork encompasses a woman with these traits. Marsha P. Johnson was a transgender American gay rights activist who helped fight for gay rights in the 1960’s. Marsha passed away in 1992 but her legacy lives on today.
