In Memory of
Oil paints on canvas with recycled wood framing
For my works I am composing three painting; each one displaying a different house that holds a special connection to me and my family. The first house at Giants Creek where my great, great grandmother Nelly lived, has perhaps had the most influence upon my two other works. From here I have research old Australian art and the way in which artist compose the scenery and dwellings.
This research paired with my experience of taking photographs swayed me to experiment with oil paints. I believe this medium gives a deeper significance to my works, as oil paints were typically used to create these types of art, as seen in work by James Muir and Julian Streeton, ‘two artists I have researched in my book’. The medium combine with the focus, are to provoke a sense of comfort and sentimental value that are passed down through generations, which is a feeling I wish to base my art making upon.
