Vocal Solo
I love using music and musical theatre to express emotions and finding a connection with the audience, supported by acting and storytelling. Demonstrated experience with local theatre productions, professional workshops and various performances has provided me with an appreciation of individual qualities and skills in other cast members, as it takes more than a leading cast to make a show.
With this being said, I wanted to expand my knowledge with performance, composition, musicology and aural skills. The choice to do Music 1 for the HSC additionally gave me an insight into the range of Genres, Styles and Periods of music. With my instrument being voice, I wanted to advance my skills in performance. For my Core Performance, I explored the topic of Musical Theatre with the song I’m Not Afraid Of Anything by Jason Robert Brown. For my three electives, I chose to explore 20th/21st Century Music with Let It Go by Anderson-Lopez from Frozen, Musical Theatre with The Spark Of Creation by Stephen Schwartz from The Children Of Eden and Instruments and It’s Repertoire with Burn by Lin-Manual Miranda from Hamilton The Musical.
Performing these songs required me to learn technical skills which was challenging and rewarding to achieve with the support of vocal coach and music teacher. The difficulties with learning these skills and performing during COVID-19, I had the support of my teacher which assisted with my ability to continue with my music studies.
