Growing up
Mixed media textiles
Once we grow old, we lose the imagination that we once had when we were young. We forget what it’s like to sit back and let our thoughts run wild- where all so fixated on our own versions of ourselves and how we are perceived by others. Sometimes I wish I was a little girl again and that I could have wings to simply fly away. I wanted to take the thought of impossible possible and create a unique set of wings just like the ones I used to have, reflecting on how creativity can give you your own pair of wings. By using all recycled lace, fabric, buttons, flowers and wire I have combined them to make a wearable artwork. Sticking to a cream colour pallet, shows that there can be beauty in simplicity whilst giving at a mature perspective. The juxtaposition of a child’s dress up being crafted from old-fashioned laces and silks highlights how creativity can connect the young and the old. This piece is an Ohmage to that little girl who wished that she could have just flown away.
