My artwork consists of a base which is a glued book, with a collage of a mirror, keys, plants and other assorted items. My artwork is titled ‘the impossibility of being perfect’ fitting into the exhibition theme. It explores the ideas of mental health, which I symbolised through the collage on top of the book. The book itself represents escaping. The fictional world created in books to escape to when life gets tough. The dead leaves and plants represent hurtful words. Once alive and beautiful, they represent maybe the feeling of other peoples hurtful words, or inside negative thoughts. The broken mirror and keys represent loss of trust, breaking apart your image, never being happy with it. The drawings of a brain, a head with a spiral brain, and thoughts exploding from a head show just what this artworks message is. Toxic thoughts we can’t get away from, confusion. My artwork aims to make the audience think about and explore their ideas of mental health.
