LIESA GUIANA – Our world wouldn’t be the same without her

By Kirsty Hails, Director, The Yellow Cottage Preschool

Mrs Leisa Guiana is an Educator at The Yellow Cottage Preschool and has been part of The Yellow Cottage family since it began.

Everyday Liesa enriches the lives of the children she works with.  She is so kind, listening to them intently and she cares about each of them and their families.

She is incredibly creative and she uses these skills every day in our preschool environment.  Liesa has the top strength of Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence and I am sure that this drives her passion for sustainability and the environment.  Liesa has been our champion for sustainability at The Yellow Cottage and she has inspired us and our families of The Yellow Cottage to make changes to our practices and improved our environmental footprint.

She has been inspired by the sustainability movement and War on Waste and brought this into our everyday lives at the TYC, recycling and thinking about our choices as a staff and with the children. Liesa has enhanced the existing garden, making it a place of discovery and a hands on learning experience on growing and nurturing plants and composting. She introduced the idea of reusable morning tea bags for the children, making them and raising funds for our garden and to purchase our buddy bench made from recycled plastics.

Liesa has an infectious smile and laugh and our team would not be the same without her.  According to Liesa ,”The Yellow Cottage is my happy place, I love to build connections with the children and their families and it makes me smile to see the children grow and become more confident little people. I work with an amazing team who inspire me everyday and in turn I annoy them about recycling and laminating!”.

Leisa’s son, Hamish draws out Leisa’s creativity in this portrait he created to submit for the 2020 Young Archie Competition.  Hamish is in Year 10 at Scone Grammar School and Leisa’s husband Guy is a member of the Scone Grammar School Council.  Community is part of their family and we feel very privileged to have their family as gifted and giving members of our SGS Community.
