Mrs Murray is our new English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) teacher. You might have seen her around during Term 1 as she was teaching Drama and English whilst Mrs Waddington was on maternity leave. Mrs Murray is back for the rest of the year and very excited to take on this new role.

We’re grateful to Mrs Deb Moore who’s done an amazing job of establishing this programme and supporting our students as they navigate English. Mrs Moore is stepping down from this role, but is still teaching Year 4 part time.

Our school has a number of brilliant students who are not only engaged in their regular studies but are learning to speak, write and learn in the English language as well. Our EAL/D students currently span from Year 1 to Year 12 and come from a range of linguistic backgrounds: Thai, Japanese, Indonesian and Mandarin.

Here you can see Mrs Murray taking a creative approach in her first class with our newest EAL/D student.  Louis has not been in Australia very long but was clearly excited to see this puzzle come out during his lesson. He immediately began to put the pieces together, sharing his knowledge of the letters and the names of the nouns that he knew. This was such a great way to have fun, overcome language barriers, and empower Louis to make links to the knowledge of English he already has. Well done, Louis, and welcome, Mrs Murray.
