We have some fresh faces among our teaching staff this year and it’s wonderful to welcome them into our SGS community.  We also have a few changes to our teaching roles and responsibilities.

(L-R) Mrs Anna Brayhaw (School Counsellor & PDHPE Teacher), Ms Amy Foster (PDHPE Teacher), Ms Yasmin Meakes (PDHPE Teacher), Mrs Kate Rohr (Secondary English Teacher)

(L-R) Ms Leonie Stephens (Trainee The Yellow Cottage Preschool), Mrs Jessica Cahill (Primary Teacher), Ms Hazel Grove (Primary Teacher)

The Yellow Cottage Preschool

Ms Leonie Stephens has joined The Yellow Cottage this year in a 12 month Trainee Role.  Leonie’s daughter will be starting Kindergarten at Scone Grammar School this year, transitioning across from The Yellow Cottage and her son will start at The Yellow Cottage Preschool this year.  She is passionate about positive preschool education and has slotted straight into our dynamic team at The Yellow Cottage.

Primary

Mrs Jessica Cahill will be teaching our Kindergarten Red class this year, teaming up with Miss Jessica Southwell and Mrs Julie Jones to teach our 2021 Kindergarten students on their exciting journey of learning and discovery.  Jessica is local to the Upper Hunter with one child already at SGS and her other joining us this year.

Ms Hazel Grove will be teaching Year 5 part time as Maternity Leave Cover for Mrs Aili Clifton who gave birth to Teddy (Theodore) on 18 December.  Aili and her boys are all doing well.  Ms Grove’s niece Teagan’s dream came true that her aunt would teach here at SGS!  Hazel has moved across from Perth where her three adult children are studying.  She’s looking forward to living here in the Upper Hunter.

Secondary

Mrs Kate Rohr will be teaching Secondary English full time this year and is already familiar with Scone Grammar School with her daughter in Year 3 and her daughter starting Kindergarten this year.  Kate has been living in Scone for three years, having moved over from Orange.  She has always had a love of the English language, having originally studied journalism and worked in media until she transitioned to teaching English and HSIE.

Mr Josh Noble has taken on the role of Head of TAS and Creative Arts faculty.  Mrs Maria English will continue in the role of Head of English and Drama, Mr Jason Croucher as Head of PDHPE and Mr Jason Buckley as Head of Music, Mrs Anne Carter as Head of HSIE and Rev’d Nate Atkinson as Head of Christian Studies as well as Dean of Students.  Mrs Deanna Hollis will continue in her dual role as Head of the Science and Maths faculty.

PDHPE (Personal Development, Health & Physical Education) and Well-being

Ms Amy Foster will be teaching PDHPE part time this year across Primary and Secondary.  Amy also runs Expressions dance school in Muswellbrook and Scone, which began seven years ago.  We’re looking forward to seeing a few new dance and gymnastic moves and grooves around the school.

Ms Yasmin Meakes will be teaching Secondary PDHPE full time this year and co-ordinating internal Secondary sports days, having moved to the Upper Hunter last year with her fiancé who grew up here.  Yasmin previously played in the Australian National Rugby Union team and last year transitioned to play Rugby League for the Sydney Roosters Women and is now included in the Australian Jillaroos Rugby League Squad.  We are looking forward to the wonderful passion for sport and rugby, as well as expertise, that Yasmin will bring to our SGS community.

This year, Mrs Anna Brayshaw will take over the role of School Counsellor and will continue to teach Secondary PHDPE and coordinate our Primary internal sports days.  Anna is part way through studying a Postgraduate in Psychology at Charles Sturt University.

Mr Jason Croucher, Head of PDHPE and teacher of Secondary PDHPE, will coordinate all HRIS (Hunter Regional Independent Sports) external sports this year, so please direct any queries about HRIS through to him.
