By Charlotte Heaton, Year 11 Student & Fundraiser Organiser
World Bicycle Relief is an international organisation that raises money to supply bicycles to people in developing countries. The people who receive these bikes are students or first responders who must walk numerous hours each day to get to school or work. These bikes supply children with the opportunities to get to school and first responders to get to work and help in hard times such as these.
Over the past week and a half and for another few weeks. students and other members of the Upper Hunter are fundraising for this organisation. Our fundraising period started on the 19th of October and will finish on the 28th of November. If anyone would like to join our team and help fundraise it is never too late to join in.
Each individual or pair has created a personal goal or challenge to accomplish over our 6-week fund-raising period to try and reach a combined goal of raising $3,000, for example Hannah Gatwood and I will be trying to ride 1,000km on our bikes over the 6 weeks together. Our fundraising period started on the 19th of October and will finish on the 28th of November.
Our current team involves Hannah Gatwood, Fletcher Shearman, Katie Sutcliffe, Lindy Hunt, Deb Fisher, Anna Lloyd, Meg Southcombe, Alyssa Mollema, Oliver, Patrick and William Scott and Myself. We will also have help raising funds from Scone High School, Scone Grammar school and St Joseph’s Aberdeen and the support of Scone Rotary Club.
If anyone would like to join our team and help fundraise it is never too late to join in and we would love if more people would like to join! If you would like to become a member of our team for the remaining month and help us raise funds, I encourage you to do so. Please reach out to myself, Hannah Gatwood, Fletcher Shearman or Alyssa Mollema at school or email me(firstname.lastname@example.org) if you would like to become a part of the action. Your goal or challenge can be anything from walking, running or riding a number of times a week or kilometres per day to shooting as many archery arrows as you can in 6 weeks.
We have currently been fundraising and chipping away at our personal goals for over a week now and our incredible team with the support of our peers have already raised over $1,000. This is truly incredible and wouldn’t have been accomplished without the support of the Hunter community so thank you to everyone involved, donating or sharing our story. If you would like to donate and contribute to our fund raising or check out more information about what we have been doing and the members of our team follow this link https://joinau.worldbicyclerelief.org/charlottehannah
Once again, a massive thank you to everyone involved in any way, it is highly appreciated.
