How to order your child's BYOD

BYOD Toolkit for Parents

Students in Years 4-6 are required to bring a current generation Apple iPad of 64GB or more to school. Students have found that using an iPad Mini, or an iPad that is several generations old can inhibit their ability to properly download and use apps which are required in the classroom. A sturdy case to protect the device from potential damage (and to easily recognise their device) and a keyboard are essential.

Students in Years 7-12 require that their devices meet evolving minimum technical requirements to take advantage of new apps and services. As we provide more learning activities and content via digital platforms, these students will need a Windows or Mac laptop that meets or exceeds the minimum requirements as shown in the next section. Apple iPads, tablets, and Chromebooks do not meet these requirements and cannot be used.

For all BYOD students, the use of Microsoft Intune is required for IT Services to automatically push apps, security settings and WiFi configuration to student devices. This is done by downloading the Intune Company Portal from the device’s App Store and signing in with the student's email address and password. If you do not know your child’s email address and password – do not worry, we will walk all students through the setup process at the beginning of the year. Once students connect their devices to Microsoft Intune, they’ll receive access to Microsoft 365, school email, our digital learning community, Minecraft Education, Adobe Creative Cloud and a vast range of exiting learning activities and opportunities. We are mindful of the significant financial sacrifices that many Scone Grammar School parents make, and the investment they are making in their child’s technology. Parents can purchase devices from their reseller of choice - a number of which often have sales in the lead up to 'Back to School' and other holidays.

The JB Hi-Fi Education Portal is our preferred method of purchasing devices for school. Parents can customise the device with accessories, warranty, and insurance, enjoy flexible payment options, and have confidence that the device they choose is specifically priced for education. Head on over to https://www.jbeducation.com.au/byod and enter the School Code SGSBYOD to get started.
